All children have the right to participate in a quality kindergarten program that is culturally safe, culturally inclusive and culturally appropriate.

About The Program

Embrace culture in kindy

The EMBRACE Culture in Kindy program aims to increase kindergarten participation for children from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds. The program works with community-based organisations in 14 priority locations across Queensland to provide support to both kindergartens and local communities.

The EMBRACE program promotes cultural diversity through:

  • Professional development training for educators
  • Resource development and information dissemination
  • Policy development to remove barriers to kindergarten participation
  • Supporting strong linkages between community and the early childhood sector

The EMBRACE Culture in Kindy program is an initiative of the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS), funded by the Department of Education and Training (DET).

The purpose of this website

Welcome to the EMBRACE website. The website has been designed for educators and support workers who work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds with children aged three to five years. We hope that parents and family members find the site useful too.

On this site you will find news and events, information about conferences and training, recent government reports and many resources. As the site progresses we also plan to have real life stories to inspire you and tip sheets for educators.

The ‘find a service’ tab will provide you with contact details of kindergartens, playgroups and support services in Queensland. Like all websites it will be improved by you. Please send any information you want us to promote and details of services in your area to and update your contact details regularly. Please let us know if you are experiencing difficulty accessing any part of the site, so that we can improve it.

Kind regards

The EMBRACE team.
